Valentine’s Jewellery Wishes not Fulfilled.

Valentine’s Day should be a time for love, but many women will be left disappointed as their men shop on autopilot,a new survey reveals.

Pebble London quizzed 131 male and 172 female Valentine’s shoppers to pitch their expectation against reality. Most male shoppers were buying gifts without thought, with 49% admitting to rushing at the last minute to pick something up. In addition, 24% said they were buying the same or similar to last year. Just 27% had thought about the gift they were buying. Women were more considered, with just 15% rushing to buy and 65% having thought about the perfect gift.

With expectations running high, the results could spell trouble. The survey revealed that 74% of men thought their partners put too much importance on Valentine’s Day, (compared to only 16% of women). Men felt urged to buy; 34% saying how much they spent would be under scrutiny. However, a whopping 76% of women said that a bit of thought was all they wanted from a Valentine’s Day gift. Just 7% saw the cash value as important.

Despite all this, Men felt that they made more of an effort than women. When asked if they topped their partners romantic efforts, 65% of male respondents said they did, while 16% admitted less effort and 19% said it was equal. Just 11% of women thought their partners made more effort than they did, although 36% felt it was equal.

When it came to what to buy, women most wanted a romantic night away (20%) but only 4% got one. Jewellery was the next favourite (18%) but only 9% received it. Flowers and lingerie seemed to be on the button with around 15% wanting and receiving flowers and around 10% getting and wanting sexy underwear.

Men were offering a dinner date (20%) and stuffed animals (16%) in their top three gifts but just 12% wanted dinner and a meagre 3% craved cuddly toys. Around half of men and women said they would spend a little less during the credit crunch.

Pebble London believes that gifts should be unique and highlight an individual quirks and desires. So, as well as searching through the unique jewellery online (by colour, price or collection) you can tell us broadly what you are looking for, and the price range, and we'll suggest appropriate gifts. Add in a favourite colour or birthstone and you’re sure to find a selection of jewellery that’s as unique a special as the one you love.

Look in our FAQ section (question 11) to find your birthstone.

Pebble features in Vanity Fair

Pebble’s had a great start to the year, appearing in Vanity Fair’s first issue of 2009. And who better to be wearing Pebble Jewellery than the stunning Taylor Swift. She really hits the folk trend that’s hot right now. If you’re not up on your american singers, here’s what Vanity Fair had to say about Swift:

“It helps, probably, that Swift is hot and blonde, but not aggressively so. Country fans don’t go for all that sassy-trampy nonsense. Just as crucially, Swift isn’t too country. She’s a twang-pop hybrid: Faith Hill with a guitar and writing credits.”

“Swift’s self-titled debut album, released in 2006, has spent 24 weeks atop Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart. Now comes her second album, Fearless, whose first single, “Love Story,” is already a Top Five hit.”

First Kate, Now Natasha!

It’s been a month for sizzling supermodels in silver here at Pebble London. First Kate Moss posed wearing Miao Silver Jewellery, and now Natasha Poly has featured in i-D Magazine wearing jewellery by Pebble.

Poly has appeared in many ad campaigns, including Gucci, Lanvin, Louis Vuitton, Roberto Cavalli, Sonia Rykiel, Nine West, and Dolce & Gabbana, and has also walked the runway for brands such as Balenciaga, Alexander McQueen, Chanel, Gucci, Versace and Victoria's Secret. She has been on the cover of Vogue ten times, including the editions for Russia, Hellas, and Paris, all in September 2007; the year also saw Poly as the only female model in Gucci's "Indy" bag campaign.

Pebble Tops the Polls

Not only has Pebble Jewellery featured in a top 100
Vogue Magazine poll, The Independent recently rated the jewellery too. Wooden necklaces by Pebble were nominated as ‘best luxury buy’.

Here’s what the Independent had to say: “Pebble is the place to head to if you want a piece of jewellery with which to make a grand entrance.”

Pebble Jewellery Hits the Catwalk

Pebble jewellery hit the catwalk at the Basso and Brooke Spring/Summer 09 show during London Fashion Week. Drenched in luminous refinement the new BandB collection reflects a positive and optimistic lifestyle expressed through colour and love of nature. This paired perfectly with Pebble’s love of natural materials and vibrant colour.

Basso & Brooke's inspiration for Spring/Summer 09 is the idea of a "High-Tech Romance". Roving the Far East for inspirational stimulus, the design duo have emerged in a Japanese, rather well organized, urban chaos.

Pebble multicoloured necklace

The manipulation and asymmetrical essence of natural elements is an important influence for this season's prints. Traditional Japanese motifs including rabbits, birds, flowers, waves, sumi-e strokes, calligraphy are celebrated and contrasted against simple and technologic graphic patterns. The blurred rush of lights, the designers witnessed whilst driving through Tokyo at night, informs strong colour - Coral Red, Iris blue, Intense Black. Sunny early mornings in the gardens of Kyoto bring us Celestial Blue, Pale Roses, Salmons and hyperreal pastels.
